Current Project Description

Sir David Willcocks

Oh Come, All Ye Faithful, originally from the Latin, “Adeste Fideles,” is a Christmas Hymn whose origins can be traced to the thirteenth century, while modern English hymnals usually credit the text to an eighteenth century English Catholic, John Francis Wade, who worked as a musical manuscript copyist.

The arrangement in this project is based upon a collaboration between Sir Stephen John Cleobury, an English organist and music director; Sir David Valentine Willcocks, choral conductor, organist, composer and music administrator; and the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge.

Here, original sheet music was modified and used to create electronic masters representing the individual parts, (soprano, alto, tenor, bass, descant), each of which were adjusted with regard to timing to emulate a live-recorded performance in the Chapel of King’s College by the King’s College Choir.

The following videos can be used for practice; each contains a real-time presentation of notes and timing for the corresponding parts. It is my hope that once ready, vocalists can use the following link to record their voices in synchronization with the appropriate video and upload their performances to the website.

Then, isolated voices will be aggregated and coupled with the organ accompaniment for public performance! Please contribute and enjoy.

Instructions

After rehearsal, please find a quiet environment. and use the following link to visit the Performance Recording page. Locate “Choose Master Video Clip to Play” and use the dropdown list on the left side to choose your voice, OCAYF-Soprano, OCAYF-Alto, etc. The file is large, so please give it time to load.

The best audio quality comes from a dedicated headset microphone, which maintains a constant distance from your mouth. If you have a webcam, you can decide whether you wish to record Audio Only or Audio and Video.

Many steps were taken to make the best recording options available to the users. Using a quality, high-speed internet connection is best. If a webcam is available, select it from the webcam dropdown list.  If a separate microphone is available, the microphone can be chosen from the dropdown list. Please choose the highest bitrate (1GB/Sec), to assure the best sound quality. Then, play the master video and add your vocals in real time. Press the upload to server button if satisfied.

**Please note that mutimedia files that are generated for each performance can be large, depending on their length. After clicking the upload button, please allow a few minutes, and watch for the confirmation notice when the upload is completed.
